The Failure of Brexit is Due To The ‘Defeatist Mindset of The Elites’

According to Britain’s leading right wing paper.

Great Britain of all the biggest economies in the world had the lowest growth figures in 2021.

These aren’t my words but those of the OECD.

Northern Ireland, on the other hand, is doing extremely well, with its numbers putting the rest of the UK to shame.

And what’s responsible for the disparity in economic performance between mainland Britain and Northern Ireland?

Much more specifically, hard Brexit, which was exacerbated by our departure from the single market and not to mention the fraught issue of the Northern Ireland protocol.

But not according to The Sun Newspaper, owned by Rupert Murdoch.

The Sun Newspaper is Britain’s biggest selling paper.

What used to be a left leaning outfit in the 60s, which supported the striking unions lurched to the right in the aftermath of Murdoch’s purchase in 1969.

The Sun consolidated its position as the preeminent print outfit in the 1980s when Thatcher allowed the Australian oligarch to buy other print establishments in exchange for his support on her radical economic agenda.

The Sun, however, was forced to revamp when it became embroiled in the phone hacking scandal in 2011, of which I have written extensively about in previous articles.

But back to the subject matter of the failure of Brexit.

In today’s paper, the problems of empty shelves in supermarkets, the long interminable queues related to the checks of goods coming into the country, the contraction of the economy, and the inability of our businesses to compete have been laid at the feet of elites who voted to remain.

But it is all rather convenient, isn’t it?

It is much easier for The Sun to point the finger of blame at the ‘ defeatist mindset of the elites’ than it is to accept the lies that it printed day after day in the run up to the referendum in June 2016.

For those of us with decent memories, it was The Sun who gave such power to the lies that we would save 350 million…
