The British empire.
In the heads of white Brits of a certain generation, there is the belief that the United Kingdom is still a global power.
And I am a bit tempted to entertain the notion for a minute, please bear with me.
The English Language.
No other language on this God-given earth has the pull and power of English. It is the basis of the British and American dominance over everyone. And it will continue to dominate, long after America fades from view.
The biggest tax havens in the world are actually British colonies: British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands, which conduct trillions of dollars worth of business annually.
The likes of Google, Amazon, Twitter, Microsoft, Apple, Paystack and other Silicon Valley behemoths, have their businesses registered in places where they are guaranteed to have their ill-gotten wealth untouched.
There was also Hong Kong, which was a British colony and was run by a governor-general appointed by Westminster, until July 1997, when it was formally handed over to the Chinese, in a lavish ceremony.
For those who do not know their history, Hong Kong was actually acquired by the criminal empire when it got thousands of Chinese folks addicted to opium.
And when the natives decided to take matters to hand, the Brits declared war on China and ended up annexing the ports, which was highly commercially and economically viable.
Over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, Hong Kong became a very successful experiment, which mainland China decided to emulate, when it decided that it had had enough of Mao’s socialist ideas.
