The Sex Life of a Lesbian Nun In Renaissance Italy.
The latest subject being explored on screen by a veteran agent provocateur.
It’s open season on the catholic church and it is with this spirit in mind that we are being treated to a film that threatens to be quite explosive on the subject matter of a book written by an American academic, Judith C. Brown, titled: Immodest Act: Life of a lesbian nun in renaissance Italy.
The film, titled: “Benedetta” is directed by the controversial Dutch film maker, best known for Basic Instincts and Total Recall—Paul Verhoeven.
“Benedetta” is about the true story of a young nun in the 17th century, who from time to time has disturbing hallucinations involving Jesus, while engaged in a sexual relationship with another nun.
Viewings took place at the just concluded Cannes festival and those who were privileged to see the latest offering from Verhoeven, a lifelong agent provocateur, were predictably split on what they saw.
The reason for the split?
