The Specter of Covid Continues To Haunt The United Kingdom and The World

No signs of the great plague slowing down.

Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, was diagnosed with Covid last week. Now this is the second time that his majesty tested positive. The very first time was in March 2020, in the immediate aftermath of the well attended commonwealth day ceremony, which took place in London.

The point of concern here is that, Prince Charles was in contact with the increasingly frail nonagenarian Queen Elizabeth, two days before his recent diagnosis.

Britain’s beleaguered prime minister, Boris Johnson announced that restrictions would be removed over the course of the next few weeks. This was meant to be in line with the dreaded virus slowing down across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

But was this the right decision?

Hong Kong, as I type is in the middle of the fifth wave, and according to its Chief Minister, Carrie Lam, are finding it very difficult to cope with the onslaught of the virus.

Watching the Super Bowl on television in the early hours of this morning, I was astounded to see great numbers of people cheering on Snoop Dogg, Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and Mary J. Blige as they carried on their business as though the last two years…
