This is no doubt true. We blame the poor for their lack of agency, lack of effort, lack of education. We begrudge them the small pleasures that make life rich, full, and meaningful. We criticize their nutritional choices, their parenting decisions, and their misplaced priorities to explain the root causes of their situation.
