Tithing: A Sign of The Church’s Moral Decay, Bankruptcy and Corruption?
Another subject worth examining…
Tithing is a common feature across most denominations in Christendom.
Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Protestants, Pentecostals, Quakers and everyone else in between happily engage in this practice.
To the uninitiated, tithing is where an adherent gives a tenth of his earnings in recognition of his faith in God.
The following passages are often quoted from the scriptures to justify this arcane practice:
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand”. Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything”.
Genesis 14: 18–20
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it”. And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven”.
