The attack on birthright citizenship is a civil rights issue we cannot afford to ignore. We must remember that Black people fought to become citizens and, in doing so, helped to establish birthright citizenship, which benefits all Americans. Removing birthright citizenship, or limiting it, is an attack on not only immigrants' right to become naturalized citizens but also an infringement on Black Americans' rights. Without birthright citizenship, how would we determine who is and isn't an American?
