Tokyo 2020
The belated Olympics is living up to its billing, thus far, in the most incredible way, imaginable.
The quadrennial competition is well and truly upon us. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against this great sporting festival ever taking place, we somehow found a way of making it happen and as expected, it has served up some huge surprises.
And not to mention, a few extraordinarily memorable spectacles.
The Philippines, in all its years of participating at the games, produced its very first gold medal winner. Weightlifter, Hidilyn Diaz was victorious in the clean and jerk event. To reward her record breaking performance, she was given $660,000 and a house.
Russia, owing to its ban from doping offences, has found a way of circumventing its difficulties, by engaging in a bit of reinvention or what you might describe as corporate re-branding by calling itself ROC. Despite the name change, we all know that it is Russia, competing at the games, finding a way to throw its weight around on the global stage.
