What these proposed changes from Medium mean for you.

A few minutes ago, I came across a lengthy article from Buster Benson on the imminent changes to our beloved space starting from the 1st of August 2023.

Unlike the changes which took place in 2021, when we had the meaningless writing competition, the vast bonuses and the 100 follower requirement for acceptance into the partnership program, what is currently being proposed is threatening to be the biggest set of changes yet to your favourite platform.

And what exactly are these changes?

  1. Introduction of 12 new countries to the Medium Partnership Program.
  2. Removal of the 100 follower requirement.
  3. Medium membership being the only pre-requisite requirement for the MPP.
  4. Earnings will be based on meaningful metrics.
  5. Boosting to result in distribution and bonuses.
  6. Discouraging click baits by adjusting read ratios.
  7. Incentivizing reads from followers.
  8. The end of the member referral program.

So what’s the big deal about these proposed changes?
