A story that must be told

Anyone who has a passing familiarity with my articles will have read my posts about my time spent working for a profoundly toxic and corrupt billionaire Nigerian boss. They will also have read about the circumstances of my departure, just before the world fell completely off its axis in February 2020.

While I was quite trenchant in my criticism of Nigeria’s labour laws and the Nigerian polity of enabling and empowering people like my old employer, nothing, I must repeat, absolutely nothing prepared me for what happened earlier this week.

Nigerian Twitter, as Sean Kernan pointed out in one of his previous write ups, is extraordinarily active and whether you are indifferent or not to what happens in Nigeria, you cannot ignore what emanates from its Twitter space.

Something short of revolutionary happened in the Nigerian Twitter sphere a few days ago.

And what exactly was this?

Horrible bosses.

People came out to tweet about their experiences regarding abusive, gaslighting and horrible employers. Unlike what we had never seen before, companies were named and shamed and their dirty laundry was aired out in public.

For starters, In my time as Chief operating officer of the property section of the oil and gas conglomerate, I wasn’t perfect.

Far from perfect.
