Wakanda, the long awaited sequel to the hugely successful Black Panther film has hit movie theaters all across the globe.
There is an added poignancy to the movie, not least because of the sudden death of the lead actor — Chadwick Boseman —in August 2020. I must confess to have been hit hard by the demise of the actor, not least because of the fact that he was on the cusp of greatness with his craft.
But for someone like me, watching these movies only make me foam at the mouth like cappuccino and incandescent with rage, with the somewhat unrealistic plot of a Mayan kingdom working to undermine to African country.
And I should explain why.
Are there nation-states like Wakanda in Africa?
The answer is a resounding yes.
Countries like Congo-Kinshasha, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan and South Sudan are multi-trillion dollar economies, whose mineral resources are more than enough to guarantee that its near one billion inhabitants live a life of peace…
