The week that was in politics…

Had anyone said to Onika Maraj a week ago that her tweets would dominate political discourse on both sides of the Atlantic for the entirety of the week and would put her in a position of relevance which she hasn’t had for a while, she would have had a hard time believing that it would happen, and yet, it was exactly what took place.

For the uninitiated on this platform, who don’t know who Onika Maraj is, I am referring to Nicki Minaj, the multi platinum selling female rapper, whose lyricism and talent for reinvention is second to none.

What began as a number of tweets to her fans explaining why she gave the Met gala a wide berth, took on a life of its own, when she explained that she hadn’t taken the vaccine and that a cousin’s friend who was due to get married in Trinidad, had to call off the wedding when his testicles became swollen.
