And worked for free for hundreds of years.

Slavery restricted their rights to literacy and when the civil war was fought to end slavery, Jim Crow did follow, disenfranchising them.

You tie people's hands and legs for centuries and then say to them that they ought to pull themselves by the bootstraps?

Given that you are from Eastern Europe why do you think that you are still light years behind western Europe?

Don't you think that imperialism and colonialism has/had something to do with it?

If you're Hungarian, there is the 1956 suppression; if you are polish, there is German colonialism to ponder.

And if you are Serbian, Yugoslavian, Bosnian, Croatian, Bulgarian, or Czech, there's plenty of ethnic cleansing and wars to think about.
