A year is long time in tech.

Scratch that.

A week is a long time in tech.

Back in 2022, nearly article written on technology in this space and elsewhere was dominated by metaverse.

Metaverse was meant to herald the mighty new world of web 3 and it was also supposed to change the game. And if you’ve forgotten, I have taken the pleasure in providing a little reminder:

the metaverse is an immersive virtual world in which we are supposed to interact with each other using specialized glasses and virtual-reality headsets.

To guarantee its success, huge amounts of money — 24 billion dollars — was committed to this vanity project. For a guy who had won big with Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, Metaverse seemed destined for the stars.

Back then, if anyone had mentioned the word ChatGPT to you in a conversation, they would have been met with very funny stares.

But by November 2022, it was clear that all wasn’t well in the wonderful world of the Metaverse.
