Now this really struck me. It seems obvious, but I realised I had been unconsciously editing what I noticed. I had a silent but powerful internal voice that said, ‘That’s ridiculous. There’s nothing interesting about that. Forget it. Notice other normal things. Things that other normal people notice. And write about those. Otherwise, people will notice that you are a weirdo.’
