Why Labour chose to field a candidate in North Shropshire is completely beyond me!

I would have happily gone along with tactically voting with the Lib Dems to get rid of the Tories out there.

I remember Martin Bell, the former BBC correspondent, doing his bit in 1997 to unseat Neil Hamilton in Tatton.

It is a great shame that the Labour party has failed to learn any lessons from its electoral failures of the past.

And it is partly because of this, that we are in this mess.
